Middlesex Squash Junior Open 2018 – Sunday 3rd June 2018
A warm and glorious day at Southgate Squash & Racketball Club at Walker Ground saw a busy day of squash. 47 enthusiastic and excited young players rocked up and played some super squash.
With the cafe open, breakfast served to the parents and coffee flowing our juniors played their matches expressing great sportsmanship.
The GU11s competition saw a number of new players playing tournaments for the first time. A big thanks to our older players who made their matches very enjoyable. This competition was dominated by visitors from the home counties. Reki Kemecsei won with Nikita Goel runner-up.
The BU11s competition had a number of surprises too with unseeded player Joshua Binmore from Herts winning against runner-up Middlesex player Tayo Janum Yahaya.
BU13s was a round robin competition with all players from Middlesex. This time Bertie Vallat was the winner against runner-up Arjan Virdi.
Due to the only 2 entries to the GU13s competition, this competition was merged with the GU15. However, the winner of the GU13s competition was Mira Bhattacharjee and runner-up Catherine Golding.
GU15 was a busy competition with all players playing 4 matches in the day - quite an achievement on such a hot day. The winner was Charlotte Murzynowski from Bucks and runner-up Hazel Genieser from Middx.
With just 3 entrants to the BU17s the round robin competition was won by Harrison Sotir and runner-up was Jonah Farrell both from Middlesex.
It goes without saying that the day would not have run so well without the help of all our volunteers, parents and coaches. A special thanks to Sharon Virdi, Richard Vallat (photographer), Tony (who is now a scores master!), and out county coaches Guido Lautaro Cannistraci , Lucas Cannistraci and Martin Shippey for all that marking and refereeing.
Thank you also to Southgate Squash Club and the Walker Cricket Ground for hosting the event.
